Dear Friends,

With your support, we are very pleased to report ongoing success in our work of enabling poor children to benefit from a much needed education. Over the past 20 years, we saw many children sponsored by this Fund graduate from high school. It is very satisfying to see them find jobs and become self-supporting members of society and we are pleased to report that many of these children are now in a position to help their families financially. This was only possible because of all the generous contributions we received from donors like you and we would like to thank each one of you for your support!

Your Donations
Your donations provide the children with food, clothing, shelter, education and medical care. Supporting one child for the entire school year costs $300 dollars, or just 82 cents a day.

This year, our Fund is supporting 141 children in India. Forty of the children are at the High School in Ratlam, M.P. (30 in the Girls Hostel and 10 in the Boys Hostel). Another 40 students are at the Neemuch Mission School. Since 2005, we have been supporting 25 orphans at the Ebenezer Orphanage Home in Dimapur, Nagaland, in northeast India. The Fund continued support of 35 orphans and children from very poor families at the Mount Carmel School in Pipar City, Rajastan. We also continue to support one of the orphan girls, who is now in her 3rd year B.Sc. nursing course at a nursing college in Ujjain.

The Fund is involved in several additional activities that also benefit from your donations, including:

  • Support of a village school in Alirajpur, M.P. that promotes the education of girls.
  • Contributions enabling the Naini Leprosy Mission Hospital in Allahabad to treat children who show early signs of leprosy until they are cured. These children also get instruction on how to prevent this disease from spreading.

Special Appeal
Our most urgent need this year is to raise $25,000 to repair the roof in boy’s hostel in Ratlam, M.P. Due to heavy monsoon rains, a part of the roof collapsed and other parts of the roof are leaking. Until the roof is repaired, the children have temporarily been moved into some of the classrooms. To prevent the children from being directly exposed to cold conditions that might result in flu and pneumonia, we would like to secure enough funding from our donors to complete this repair prior to the winter season.

William Bayer, one of the founders of the Dr. Mina MacKenzie Memorial Trust Fund, passed away on February 12, 2011. He was a great inspiration whose drive and determination helped the Fund to grow. William derived great satisfaction from helping hundreds of children become self-sufficient. Your contributions will ensure we continue to succeed in breaking the cycle of poverty through education.

Thank you very much for your support!

In Loving Memory of William F. Bayer

William F. Bayer
Jan. 12, 1934 – Feb. 12, 2011

Passed away suddenly at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto at age 77, from cardiac arrest.

Devoted and loving husband of Sarina, father of Carl, Bill (Maryellen) and Michael, and grandfather of Alexandra, Courtney and Paige. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Over the last two days, he received many visitors and calls from family and friends wishing him a speedy recovery and asking about the 50th wedding anniversary he and wife Sarina were to celebrate this month.

He was deeply involved in helping orphaned and underprivileged children in India, through the Dr. Mina MacKenzie Memorial Trust Fund.

Over more than 20 years of the Fund’s existence, along with Sarina he traveled many times to India and made a positive impact in the lives of hundreds of children, who affectionately called him “Nanaji” (grandpa).

He lived a full life and his dedication to these children was an inspiration to each of us to do something worthwhile in the short time we have available.

The Dr. Mina Mackenzie Memorial Trust Fund is dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged people in India by providing opportunities for a better education and a richer life. The Fund was founded in the belief that as children are empowered to realize their potential they bloom, and in so doing bring enrichment to the world we share.

For the past fifteen years we have been quietly touching the lives of a growing number of young people and their families. By providing opportunities for education, we are ensuring children the change for a better tomorrow, while lightening the burden of today.

Because the dollar goes a long way in India, just a few pennies a day enable us to change profoundly the lives of those we serve. What does it cost to make such a powerful difference in young lives? For the price of just one night at the movies in Canada or the U.S., a child’s school expenses in India can be covered for a month. The Dr. Mina Mackenzie Memorial Trust Fund depends wholly on donations from individuals and organizations.

We hope you share our excitement, and our vision of a more just and equitable society in which children can look forward to a rich and fulfilling life. Only with your continued compassion and generosity can we succeed in this life changing work.

Please help us make a difference!
